Eligbility for B.Tech Marine Engineering





Medical Standard

(Fully Residential Course)


Pass in (10+2) or Equivalent examination with Physics(P), Chemistry(C), Mathematics(M) and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%. The candidates should have obtained with minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Standard.

Should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms.

No color blindness.


Candidate can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course provided he has passed 1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI.)

Candidates can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course who have passed 1st year from the Engineering College in other streams like Mechanical or Electrical approved by AICTE with minimum 60% average marks.

Candidates can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering
Degree Course who have passed 3 years Diploma Course in Mechanical / Marine / Electrical/ Electrical and Electronics from the colleges approved by AICTE
or State Board of Technical
Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.

(i) Mechanical Engineering stream - Three years Diploma in (a) Automobile engineering; (b) Machine tools and Maintenance/ Plant Engineering; (c) Production technology; (d) Production engineering; (e) Advanced diploma in tool and die making.

(ii)  Electrical Engineering Stream- Three years Diploma in Electrical Power System.

(iii) Electrical & Electronics Engineering Stream - Three years Diploma in (a) Digital Electronics; (b) Electronics and Communications Engineering; (c) Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering; (d) Industrial Electronics; (e) Electronics Engineering; (f) Electronics Production and Maintenance (g) Electronics; (h) Instrumentation; (i) Instrumentation and Control

Part time or Distance Learning .or Correspondence Course or any combination of these will not be considered for the purpose.

The candidates should have obtained with minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Standard or in the Degree / Diploma course conducted by recognized Board or any University.

After completion of four year marine Engineering course and four-Modular courses successfully, the student is eligible, to be appointed as Junior Engineer on Merchant Ships. On completion of the stipulated period on ships and after passing the required competency Examination conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India or Marine Administration of other governments, the Engineer becomes a Chief Engineer of a ship within 5 to 6 years.

Joining Instructions to the Candidates
1.   These joining instructions are required to be followed by all the candidates. These instructions with additional instructions if any will remain in force till any amendment is made.
2.    It is the duty of individuals to know the lay-out of the PARK MARITIME ACADEMY and out of bound area.
3.   Candidates are not permitted to go out during the working hours/Non working hours and also on Holidays unless permission is granted.
4.   The medical facilities provided in the campus are free of cost. In case of serious problem the candidates will transferred to Civil Hospital nominated by PMA. The expenditure has to be borne by the individual.
5.  The custody of personal items will be the responsibility of each individual.
6.  The living places and its surrounding are to be kept clean and tidy at all times.
7.   Smoking, Using Drugs and consumption of alcohol in any form is strictly prohibited.
8.  The consumption of electricity and water to be minimized by switching off when not in use.
9.   No parents/guests are allowed inside the premises without prior permission.
10. Wastage of food will be considered as a serious offence.
11. Very high standard of discipline is expected from all the Candidates inside/outside the campus.
12. After day to day work, the lights must be switched off at 22.00 hrs every day. (Refer DAILY ROUTINE)
13. The list of uniforms has been specified by the Directorate General of Shipping and each Candidate must possess the same while under training in the Institute and must wear the uniform accordingly during training activities. The required uniforms must be well maintained and expected to be up kept at a high level of quality standards.
15. Cell phones are not permitted inside the classroom or anywhere outside the hostel room. Permitted timings are 18:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs
16. The Institute will facilitate placement of Candidates with recognized shipping Companies at the end of the course. However, the selection is purely based on the merit of the Candidate and requirements of the Company.
